For most organizations, HVAC hygiene maintenance still revolves around a single mandatory annual inspection and many companies schedule for compliance rather than for genuine prevention. The logic that follows is unforgiving: when contamination is detected, even at just a few sampled points, the assumption is that the system’s hygienic condition is broadly compromised. The result is a full sanitisation, with high costs, night-time operations, and the risk of operational downtime.
This approach was perfectly rational when it was conceived.
